grenada island pages

A while back I found out that Bean’s on the inside cover of the new edition of Grenada’s phone book. Today, I finally got a copy.

Grenada Island Pages

And here’s the inside cover. This photo was taken in front of his school on Grenadian Independence Day. The holiday is why they’re all dressed in their “national colours”. I was there that morning and have similar pictures that I took with my own camera.

Grenada Island Pages Featuring Joaquin the Illustrious Bean

Grenada’s a small country, fewer than 100,000 people, I believe, but it still kind of blows my mind that of all the thousands of gorgeous children on the island they chose my Bean. I know there are other kids in the photo but he’s clearly front and center, no?

The only problem is… They didn’t ask my permission. They didn’t even notify me. The only reason I know about this and have a copy of it is that a friend in Grenada sent it to me. If it weren’t so totally cool, I might complain.

My name is María. I like wasabi, patronize bunny rabbits and think red wine really needs to stop pretending it's not purple.

I lived in Caribbean for four glorious years. My son - Joaquín the illustrious Bean - was born on the island of Grenada. He's beautiful, brilliant and has two birth certificates.

Now we're back in the land of snow and afternoon sunsets, and all the diet Coke and Thomas the Tank Engine in the world won't cushion the blow of such culture shock.

This is our story.
