olympic roundup

Athletes from the Caribbean have been kicking some serious tuchis in Beijing.
Many of the Caribbean bloggers I enjoy reading have been quite busy on this topic. Here’s a mini roundup:
YY at BlahBlohBlog discusses track and field stars Usain Bolt and Shelly-Ann Fraser (both from Jamaica), Richard Thompson (Trinidad & Tobago) and Randy Lewis (Grenada) here. She celebrates Bolt’s world record here, and the Jamaican mens’ relay team’s record here.
Jdid at Doan Mind Me wrote a really great post about what’s amiss with Olympics coverage and Spanish basketball players. He also considers the glorious Usain Bolt (here and here), as well as a nasty incident in the Chinese press.
Mad Bull gives a shout-out to the three fastest women in the world and the omnipresent Bolt.
Stunner shares his infectious enthusiam for all things Caribbean Olympian: Bolt (and his showboating), Jamaican female runners, Bolt again, and Veronica Campbell-Brown, the gold medalist from Jamaica.
I’d never heard of Usain Bolt until last week. But he is really something else, isn’t he?

I find I can’t end this post, I can’t talk about the Olympics, without mentioning Team USA Basketball. I just love these guys. It’s partly nostalgia, partly that I haven’t seen much basketball in three years, and partly that after all this time I’m still a sucker for Kobe Bryant.
Here’s the NBA’s official site for USA Basketball, here’s an interesting article at Slate about the marketing genius of the so-called “Redeem Team”, and here’s a fan-made highlight reel:
